Social justice movements that do not challenge their own bad habits will tend to perpetuate them.

One place that the second wave of feminism faltered, and which is still being amended, was in appreciating feminity rather than condemning it. In trying to achieve empowerment for women so they could do things like get paid enough to feed themselves and maybe a child or two, or walk home at night without getting raped and blamed for it, many White academics figured that the smart and progressive thing to do was to emulate the existing more successful model for getting money and rapelessness: be less feminine, because being feminine makes you weak.

Actually being feminine doesn’t make you weak (just read the Dao De Jing). Being shoehorned into being a particular kind of feminine and then being told that being feminine makes you weak (and being a non-feminine woman makes you mad, worthless or a lesbian) makes you disempowered.
